CrossFit

CrossFit is a training method developed by former gymnast "Coach" Greg Glassman over the course of about 20 years of studying  movements and coaching all types of people – from “normal and average” to top athletes. He looked into all the different athletic domains and picked what worked best for the most versitile and physically capable athletes on the planet (gymnasts, sprinters, weightlifters, etc.) and integrated it into his system - with the aim of creating a broad, general base of fitness that prepares people for anything, the "unknown and unknowable". CrossFit is an open source system: If a workout or an exercise proves functional and gets great results, it becomes part of the system, in order to improve it. This it what makes CrossFit the most effective Fitness method in the world today!

MS_Cape_CrossFit_2010-01-23_Beach1One of the things that makes CrossFit unique is its scalability: The method of improving the fitness of a novice or a top level athlete is the same, the only difference is the intensity and the volume of the workout. A novice will typically move less weight and go a smaller distance or at a slower pace, but the movements are similar to those top athletes use for their training: In all cases, the best results come from training functional movements (which replicate real life movement) at high intensity and with constant variety. Any exercise program that meets these three criteria can be considered “CrossFit,” from picking up rocks, carrying sandbags and cutting down trees to weightlifting, pull ups and sprinting.

CrossFit is also "The Sport of Fitness", because it re-introduces personal athletic achievement and performance to training. The mindset at the start of each workout is to be stronger, move faster, more efficiently, with better form than ever. This is why even after years of training CrossFit style, athletes continue to improve. It is hard, but also fun, exciting and very challenging! Since 2007, there is also a competition for this sport: Annually, the CrossFit Games determine, who are the fittest people on the planet.

Why Crossfit? Results. Period. Compound or functional movements and high intensity or anaerobic cardio is radically more effective at eliciting nearly any desired fitness result. Startlingly, this is not a matter of opinion but solid irrefutable scientific fact and yet the marginally effective old ways persist and are nearly universal. Our approach is consistent with what is practiced in elite training programs associated with major university athletic teams and professional sports. CrossFit endeavors to bring state-of-the-art coaching techniques to the general public and athlete who haven’t access to current technologies, research, and coaching methods.

To gain a greater understanding of CrossFit, have a look at the videos and information on this site. Eventually, you will understand that most other training programs either take way too much time to get the results or are incomplete, leaving a well rounded athlete with a chink in his/her armor.
