How to row 42.000m

Not so long ago, on a Saturday, Rika completed a special workout in our gym. One that we would not let our students do on a regular basis - if just for the lack of time: She did a 42 kilometer row. Yup, that's right: a marathon. In support of the comrades marathon that was taking place on the same week end. That takes a lot of time you might think - and you are right. It took Rika just over 3 hours to complete the row. This is a very impressing feat and she did it all on her own. All on her own, really? Wait a second, I have footage that proves otherwise (see video above). But seriously: While Rika did the main part of the work, it was certainly nice to have someone on her side to support her, to feed her and even to pull a few strokes for her. Her husband Lluwellyn was truely great support that day (hopefully not only that day ...). Great job, both of you! Support is especially important when you are facing tough times in life - and in a tough workout. At Cape CrossFit, we are blessed to see support to some degree in almost every training session: a helping hand, a word of advice, a yell of support or just simply a smile. Again: We are blessed. Thanks for your support! Post thoughts to comments.

Like I said: I feel blessed!

Ellie, it is scary that you even consider it... I think it can be done though ... ;D

Great post, Jobst! :) How inspiring and what nice thoughts.

Chris, sounds like you and I had a similar day yesterday - not my finest hour, ha!

And one thing I will say - you will be much more likely to see me row a marathon than run one; not that either is exactly in the cards thank you very much!

What goes around comes around. Jobst and Roland, y'all set the tone and that is one of challenge, but with all the support necessary to meet that challenge...maybe call it challenging support ;)

Chris, I learn from you every time whether explicitly or implicitly. I would never be willing to get on the rower on a regular basis if Rika (AND Roland) hadn't taken the time to show me a few things. And Janie, darlin', you and I are double trouble in the gym, in the bestest of ways ;)

Best hour of the day! ;)

Chris, it is the people that train with us that make it so amazing. We feel really blessed. Thanks to all of you!

    Janie, well said! Awesomeness! :)

Rika, I know claiming that the vertical challenge is holding me back from attemting anything close to this is really just an excuse, I think you are awesome. Well done, let me know when you are going to attempt an ultra row and I will assist Lluwellyn with the seconding.

    Chicks dig you lank!

That's actually the one thing that I love most with Cape CF! Like today, even if I'm grumpy at my self for not getting it right, Roland is telling me to stop bitching (rightfully so) and Anton is cheering me on to get the next rep done...
    Blessed? Hell yeah!

PS. Rika's marathon is nothing but an insane, totally incredible and for me, never-gonna-happen-unless-you-pay-me-a-million-bucks-kind-of-thing (And it still take me 3 days, not hours!). Well done indeed!
